Learning centres in Singapore have grown exponentially over the years—which just shows dedication to quality education of the youth. After all, these students will soon be the future leaders, professionals, politicians, teachers, among others of the country.
It is no wonder then that aside from in-house tutorial centres that are often employed by schools and universities, some private businesses opened their own tuition centres in Singapore. “The demand of the academe can sometimes be overwhelming to a student who does not have the same learning pace as the other more intelligent students so there will always be someone who needs a more focused learning system, and this is where learning centers come in,” said Professor Ross Albany who is a long-time associate professor in a SG.
Penn Beack, 21, who is now a senior college student majoring in Physics, shared how getting into a physics tuition centre in Singapore helped him figure out what he wants to take in the university he was eyeing back in high school, “I was the kind of kid who was more interested in sports in school so I was quite finding it hard to be good at anything academically. In fact, I used to even mix up distance and displacement when I was taking high school Physics because I hate reading and would rarely listen to teachers during lectures. My mother noticed how I was on the verge of flunking the class so she immediately asked me to enroll in a tuition centre to work on this difficulty. I got to meet similar students who struggled with the subject, and I was motivated to learn more. Fast forward to today, I am now about to finish a degree in Physics. I plan to work for a corporate company for a while and then teach in college and pursue graduate school. It is an understatement to say that enrolling in a tuition centre gave me a better direction in life—it was a pivotal point in my life and I never regretted taking those outside classes. ”
A somewhat similar experience was shared by Jenny Lewis-Lee, 24, who once got into a math tuition centre in singapore years back, “I was struggling with Calculus and Geometry so my teacher endorsed me to a tuition centre she knew where the difficult maths are easily taught with effective techniques to use for faster problem solving. I don’t want to say that I turned into a geek because I enjoyed those classes, but I really did become more interested in the subjects that I became an accountant later on. ”
Zack Michaels, an instructor in a language centre in Singapore,
shared an inspiring stories about one of his students , “One of my EFL students told me she was fed up always being singled out in her language classes because she has stage fright and does not do well in public speaking exercises. After taking a series of classes with us, she reported to have improved , and she does not dread speaking before a crowd anymore. Her enunciation improved too, and it is likely that she will choose a course in college that is related to communication as she told me she always wanted to work in television. The story was so inspiring because the first time she was in my class, I can’t even get 10 words out from her because she would either answer me with a Yes or a No as she was afraid that she will again be a laughingstock in the class. But her fellow learners were very gracious and understanding that no one laughed when someone commits a mistake. ”These are just some of the lives that were changed by tuition centres.
